Nora's 22 Month Update
If you saw my last post about Nora, you know that this month has already had some huge milestones! No more binky anymore, and we moved her to her toddler bed. She is still doing great with both! She does still ask for the binky sometimes, but has yet to throw a fit when I tell her no. We are so very proud.
Also when we last left you, I was up in the air about whether or not to put Nora in underwear. Well . . . I did. She has been in undies for six days now. The first two days she had no accidents, the second two days she has had two accidents each day, and the last two days we got through almost accident-free - that is until tonight when one snuck up on her. She just hates anything potty-related, and she always has, so we are just doing our best to make it fun. Things will improve as she gets better at telling me when she has to go and as I get better at being patient with her.
She talks so much now. And. It's. Hilarious!! Here are some of my favorite things that she says:
"I gotta weeb.". (i've got a leaf.)
"I know! I know!"
"I toot!" (followed by a giggle)
"Pee pee go IN. THE. POTTY!"
She loves to sing and do finger plays with me. She has also started improvising songs which is SO funny! When we are on our way to visit someone, she will sing their name to the tune of "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star". For example, I heard the "Mimi" version and the "Babies - Shawn" version just last week. She also loves to sing songs she hears on TV. She can sing the Wonder Pets songs pretty well!
The girl also looooves to "talk" on the phone. She doesn't get that the other person on the line can't see her - more than once I have told her to "say hi" and she just stands there and waves at the phone. But she will call and talk to anyone, so feel free to call her! :)
Lately she has been a little possessive, which is new and different for me to deal with. She is sometimes possessive about her toys, but she has also been telling her friends that I am HER mommy. Hopefully she gets past that!
Until next time . . .

Summer Decor
Hey all! Just thought I would post some pictures of my summer decor. It's nothing too big or exciting - I have been going through a medical issue and so I haven't had time to focus on much else.
I put new fabric in the large frames on my wall. I wanted to try some detailed fabric this time, so unfortunately it's a little difficult for you all to see in the pictures. The blue one is navy with light brown stars on it. The red one I think you can see OK, but it's dark read with light brown stripes. I used a little of that fabric to cut a table runner as well.
On my shelves, we start with a wreath I made from this tutorial. It was super-easy and I think I will make another one sometime. The "USA", stars, and "Red, white, and blue" are decorations that I had already. I also had the black fabric-covered frame, which is magnetic. I made a magnetic pennant banner to go on it, and cut out some simple frames for Nora's summer pictures.
The mantle is basically the same for now, I just added some blue to it so it would go with the theme. :)
I kept with the red, white, and blue theme for Cory's Father's Day gift as well. I saw this arrangement and decided that Cory would enjoy something like this for Father's Day. Plus, it was in our price range! So here's the one I made:
I hope you like all this. If you know me, it is perhaps the simplest decor I have come up with yet. :) But I really like it's simplicity!

From baby to big girl - all in one week!
My Nora girl had such a big week last week!
It started on Monday. I decided that Nora and I were both ready for her to give up her beloved binky. It was now or never. It would be difficult, but we could DO it together!
I had two binkies ready with the tips cut off in case she threw a fit (so I could show her that they were "broken"). When bedtime came, I just told her "no binky". She threw herself down on the floor for about a minute, then she got up . . . and that was really the end of it! No tears, no other fits! She asked for the binky all week, but by the end of the week she was telling me (with a big, proud-of-myself smile) "no binky!". I still cannot believe how easy that was. I am so proud of how great she handled it!
SO - since we did so well on that, this weekend I had Cory set up the toddler bed. Nora has a convertible bed that changes from a crib, to a toddler bed, to a full-size bed. Before we took the binky away I had been thinking that Nora was ready for the toddler bed - the girl is such a good sleeper, and I knew we weren't going to have to even deal with her getting up because she would lay in bed FOREVER if I let her. So we went ahead and did that too - and again she did great! She looooooves her "new bed!" I took some pictures of us setting it up:
Nora laying on what I told her was her "new bed". :) lol
Helping Daddy set it up.
Trying it out!
Happy to have a "new bed".
Also this past week we went to a festival in my hometown. We knew we would only be able to stay for a little bit, so we made the most of it! Nora rode her first carnival ride - the "cars" that go around in a circle and make that strange beeping sound. (Do you know what I am talking about?? I seriously think I rode on these exact same cars as a kid.) Anyway, Nora ended up riding them three times, and had a BLAST!!! It was a great way to reward her for being such a big girl all week.
First timer!
Still lots of fun!
Next up for Nora - underwear maybe??!! Lol . . . She is ready I think, but Cory disagrees with me. I kind of want to keep the momentum going though! ;)
Anyway, until next time . . .

Summer Time . . .
Sorry for the long blog absence! I have no excuse except I have not had anything really interesting that I felt like blogging about. Let me update you on what's been going on around here before I do a lame, photo-intensive filler-post. :)
Last weekend was Memorial Day weekend, and we went camping with the in-laws. It was great! While we were camping we went to Cory's cousin's wedding, and we all had a good time. Nora ended up getting sick that week with hand, foot, and mouth and then right after that she got sick with a cold. But in the midst of it all, Cory and I did have the opportunity to have a great date night. We took a long motorcycle ride on a beautiful evening, and stopped for ice cream as well. Then this past weekend was our Community Yard Sale. It did not go well because it was the hottest day so far this year - just miserable!! Hardly anyone showed up, so Cory and I called it quits over an hour early, packed everything up, shipped it to Goodwill, then went to get some lunch.
And now you are up-to-date. :)
I thought I would give you an idea of what summer time is like around here. It's a bit slower for me since I happen to watch a lot of teacher's kids. So here's what it looks like:
Trips to the various parks in the area:
Playing outside in the shade:
Staying cool in the backyard inflatable pool:
Water play:
Eating ice with Mimi when she comes to visit (this is how the ice-addiction began folks):
Cheese!:
Also, some pics from 2010 that give you an idea of what to expect this summer:
Lots of camping:
At least one Cardinals game:
Ice Cream . . .
. . . and watermelon! (LOTS!!)
Watching fireworks with mommy while daddy keeps everyone safe on the dam:
. . . and on and on! :) I could post sooo many more pics. We also plan to make many trips to the beach by our house, hit up at least one Grizzlies game, and do many field trips and playgroups with the MOMS Club. Should be a great summer!
Until next time . . . (I am putting up my summer decor this week. :) )
